In the year of 1857 when Jakob Baumberger returned home from his studies in Munich, the newly graduated masterbrewer founded a distillery at his father’s farm.

In 1860 he took over a small brewery at Langenthal, a village which was first mentioned historically in 861 as “Langatun”. He then developed both the distillery and the brewery, turning them into very successful enterprises.

After Jakob’s death, his son, Hans Baumberger the 1st, successfully continued the business with his brothers. In 1907, they founded a company for the exploitation of peat in order to be able to fire the distillery and to run the malting plant.

Nearly 150 years later, in 2007, masterbrewer and distiller Hans BaumbergerIII decided to continue the vision of his great grandfather, Jakob. In the best family tradition he created the hand-crafted “Langatun“ Single Malt Whisky and other top-class spirits.

The “Old Deer” is our classic Single Malt whisky. It is an unpeated, 100% pure barley-malt whisky, produced from the best European malt, and fermented with a specially selected English Stout yeast. Even in the early days of the fermentation a rich mixture of vegetal and fruity flavors can be detected, aromas that we will meet again in the finished product.

With the triple distillation we give the “Old Deer” its incomparable smooth, tender and malty character. The maturation in Sherry and Chardonnay casks provides the “Old Deer” with its outstanding complexity and elegant aftertaste.

The “Old Bear” is a tribute to Jakob Baumberger who, in 1857, founded a distillery on his father’s farm and also took over a small brewery as well. During the following period the brand logo of his brewery was a bear, the “Old Bear”.

The “Old Bear” is brewed and distilled in the same way as the “Old Deer” but with peated barley malt hence the appendix “Smoky”. The peating process is the same as for meat or fish: during the drying process of the malt smoke is added to the drying air and the smoke aromas are integrated with the malt and carry on into the finished product.

The “Old Bear” is aged in oak casks previously used for the maturation of French red wine from the Chateauneuf-du-Pape area, a massive dark red wine. The elements of this wine can be detected in the “Old Bear”: an intense auburn color, nice flavors of wood and peat and the typical malty aroma with a slight touch of the taste of wine.

The basis of the Gold Bee Whiskey Liqueur is our Old Deer Single Malt Whiskey. We sweeten this with intensively aromatic honey from Yucatan (Mexico) and reduce it to a pleasant 28% alcohol by volume. The Gold Bee Whiskey Liqueur is additionally flavored with natural vanilla extract and other tropical spices and flavor rounded to a harmonious whole.

The scent of the Gold Bee whiskey liqueur is clearly recognizable in addition to the whiskey, the honey on the palate, the sweetness of the honey and the tropical spices are expressed in the finish and combine honey and whiskey to a lasting harmony.

“Gold Bee” is ideal as an aperitif, as an accompaniment to a sweet or as an ingredient in a cocktail. Your imagination knows no bounds, try it, we wish you a lot of fun!

For the “Winter Wedding” we “married” our “Old Deer” with the “Old Bear” to create a characterful and lovely single malt.
